Sitting on the edges of Melbourne’s CBD, Prahran is a bustling suburb ideal for professionals and families. Filled with shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, bookstores, clothing stores and music shops, the area is also home to many delightful hidden gardens. It has an upmarket and fashionable reputation and plays host to a large collection of brilliantly architectured buildings including the Prahran Markets, Reads Emporium, Maples Corner and Love & Lewis.
Residential Architecture in Prahran consists mostly of Victorian and Edwardian terrace houses with some larger double storey terraces closer to the main shopping strips. We have helped transform many older homes into slick new residences and apartment buildings, using sheer curtains for softness, roman blinds as great blockouts in kids’ bedrooms and plantation shutters on street facing windows. As these inner city blocks tend to be smaller than some more suburban size blocks, we commonly use folding arm awnings to extend the indoors by creating outdoor rooms. All of these options are available with motorisation for the ultimate convenience.

Did you know?
Prahran takes its name from Pur-ra-ran, a Woiwurrung word which was thought to mean “land partially surrounded by water”. The word has more recently been identified as a transcription of “Birrarung”, the name for the Yarra River, or a specific point of it.
