Pelmets

Complete your furnishings! Pelmets, while not the main event, should never be overlooked when you are designing your curtains, as they complete the style of your window furnishings as well as acting as clever insulators. Pelmets act as a ‘seal’ above the curtain itself to stop warm air from cascading down behind the curtain and out the glass during winter, and the same for cool air during summer.

This will help reduce your power bills while keeping the house at a comfortable temperature, in addition to creating a streamlined look from the base of the curtain to the top.

Pelmets come in a range of styles and shapes, and our team will be able to help you pick out the best one to go with your new curtains.

Block outs for energy efficiency

Curtains made with a lining attached are ideal for any Melbourne home, as they’ll help reduce your power bills during hot summer days and cool winters. Be sure to pair them with a great pelmet to complete the look and ensure the best insulation possible. Our team will be able to match the best choices for your home.

Love a dark bedroom? As well as insulating the home, blockout curtains offer the greatest amount of blockout, so when you’re in need of a sleep in, the room stays dark. Our showroom stocks a wide range of block out fabrics, in the colour, texture and style that you’re after, so come in and chat with our team.

Theatre curtains

Theatre room curtains are being more popular around Bayside and Melbourne
We have a huge range of fabrics to select from and come into our showroom to see full sized samples to help your decision making process.

Furnishing odd-shaped windows

This is where the team of custom curtain manufacturers at Nicholls will be able to help, designing and crafting a curtain that will be the perfect fit the regulate light and privacy and increase energy efficiency in your home.

Common questions about Curtains and Blinds

Are blockout curtains/ drapes a good insulator?

Yes they are one of the best internal options for insulation. The curtains are lined with an excellent quality 3 pass lining which provides the highest level of blockout and insulation. Curtains are also usually installed higher and wider than the windows and overlap in the middle eliminating gaps which prevent transfer of air keeping your room cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Adding a pelmet to your curtains further improves insulation as the air cannot transfer over the top of the curtain.

How are blockout curtains installed?

Blockout curtains and drapes can be installed face fit onto the wall or top fix into the ceiling. They can be installed on standard styeline tracks which are designed to not to be noticed or on decorative rods/ tracks to make a feature of them.

How can I clean my blockout curtains?

We suggest having a professional come and clean them while installed or consult an expert drycleaner who specialises in curtains. Make sure you make the cleaner aware of the fabric composition so they can give you the best advice (and discuss the possibility of shrinkage). The lining on the back of the curtain cannot be dry-cleaned.

What sort of pelmets can be used with curtains?

We can make pelmets in the same fabric or a co-ordinating fabric to your curtains to complete your look. We can also make timber pelmets painted in any dulux colour to conceal the top of the curtains and blend in with your walls.
